Hot Knife by Fiona Apple

On Wednesday we listened to the Forester’s song from “As You Like It.” The song was performed as a round, which would have been common for a lot the popular songs of Shakespare’s time.

I chose to share with you the song “Hot Knife” by Fiona Apple. Partially because she is one of my ALL TIME favorite artists, but also because the majority of the song is sung as a round. Fiona sings multiple parts of the song at the same time and her vocals overlap each other. The song also uses the double entendre ““If I’m butter, then he’s a hot knife,” which I thought was interesting to point out since Shakespeare very frequently used double entendres within his writing. The song has a very minimalistic beat which draws even more attention to the round and lyrics. Hope you guys enjoy the song as much as I do!
