I seem to have a thing for flipping perspectives. This lovely Aerosmith song details a story where the love interest is painfully finicky – yet still loves the speaker to death. I was reminded of Pamphilia to Amphilanthus for a few reasons.
In my head, I saw Wroth’s sequence from the opposite perspective – Amphilanthus complaining about Pamphilia, as opposed to Pamphilia complaining about Cupid. Throughout the song, the speaker admits that he does love the love interest, but cannot stand the lack of reciprocation and other problems she brings into the relationship. He goes on to say that he needs a better relationship, but can’t keep himself away from the love interest. Ultimately, he breaks away from the interest, and nothing is really resolved – just like Wroth’s sequence.
