We all should hate cupid. Right? In Carrie Underwood’s “Cupid’s Got a Shotgun,” Cupid stepped up his game, tossed his arrows aside, and took up a shotgun because Carrie’s heart was just a tad too tough for him.
This song reminds me of Mary Wroth’s work, in which she was shot by cupid’s flaming arrow which made her heart burn. This theme of Cupid, and placing blame on him seems to have worked across the generations. Possibly, it is much easier to place the blame on a little naked man shooting arrows than to use our own sense to know who to and not to fall in love with.
